Unmadgajkesari Ras is a classical Rasashastra formulation traditionally used to calm agitation and support mental clarity in Unmada (psychiatric disturbance) and related Vata-Kapha disorders of the mind.
Unmad Gajkesari Ras is a classical Rasashastra formulation described in the Yogaratnakara, prepared from purified mercury, sulphur, and Manahshila (purified realgar) combined with purified Dhattura (Datura) seeds, processed with Vacha and Brahmi.
It is traditionally indicated for Unmada (psychiatric disturbance resembling psychosis or mania), Apasmara (epilepsy), and severe Vata-Kapha disorders affecting the mind.
In Ayurveda, Unmada (psychiatric disturbance) is classically attributed to severely aggravated Vata and Kapha dosha disturbing Manas (the mind) and obstructing the fine channels of the head (Manovaha Srotas).
Unmad Gajkesari Ras is classically prepared by triturating purified mercury and sulphur with purified Manahshila and Dhattura seeds, using decoctions of Vacha and juice of Brahmi as the grinding medium, as described in the Yogaratnakara.
Its potent Vata-Kapha-pacifying and sedative (Nidrajanana) action is traditionally believed to calm an agitated mind and restore mental clarity, while Brahmi and Vacha support cognitive nourishment (Medhya).
The classical base of many Rasa Shastra formulations, traditionally described as Krimighna and Rasayana when properly processed and purified.
