Sut Shekhar Ras is a classical Rasashastra formulation traditionally regarded as a cornerstone remedy for hyperacidity, heartburn, and Amlapitta (acid peptic disorders).
Sutshekhar Ras is a classical Rasashastra formulation described in the Yogaratnakara (Amlapitta Rogadhikara), prepared from purified mercury and sulphur combined with Bhasmas of conch shell, mica, and copper, along with purified Vatsanabha, Tankan, Sunthi, Maricha, and Pippali.
It is one of Ayurveda's principal formulations for Amlapitta (hyperacidity, gastritis, and GERD), and is traditionally indicated for heartburn, acid reflux, nausea, and Pitta-related headaches.
In Ayurveda, Amlapitta (hyperacidity) is classically understood to arise when aggravated Pitta dosha increases the sourness and sharpness of digestive secretions, irritating the stomach lining and food pipe.
Sutshekhar Ras is classically prepared using the Kharaliya Rasayana method, first forming Kajjali from purified mercury and sulphur, then triturating it with Shankha, Abhraka, and Tamra Bhasma along with Vatsanabha, Tankan, and warming digestive herbs, using Bhringaraja juice as the grinding medium.
Its Pitta-pacifying, mildly alkaline composition is traditionally believed to neutralize excess stomach acid and soothe the gastric lining, while its Yogavahi (catalytic) mercury base is understood to enhance absorption and calm the associated nervous system symptoms of acidity.
The classical base of many Rasa Shastra formulations, traditionally described as Krimighna and Rasayana when properly processed and purified.
A traditional Rasashastra ingredient classically used for its Kapha-Ama clearing and lymphatic-supportive properties.
Classically included in formulations for glandular and metabolic disorders for its traditional Kapha-pacifying action.
Used in classical preparation as a Tridosha-balancing decoction base, traditionally regarded as Rasayana and digestive-supportive.
