Sarpgandhaghan Vati is a classical Ayurvedic extract formulation traditionally used to support healthy blood pressure, calm an overactive mind, and promote restful sleep.
Sarpagandha Ghan Vati is a classical Ayurvedic formulation made from the concentrated extract (Ghan) of Sarpagandha (Rauwolfia serpentina), a herb whose root contains reserpine and related alkaloids, and is combined with Pippali Moola (long pepper root) as described in classical Siddha Yoga compilations.
It is traditionally indicated for Uccha Raktachaap (hypertension), Anidra (insomnia), and hyperexcitability of the mind, where it is valued for its calming, Vata-Pitta balancing, and mild diuretic action.
In Ayurveda, hypertension and an agitated, sleepless mind are classically linked to aggravated Vata and Pitta dosha disturbing the nervous system and cardiovascular channels (Hridaya and Rasavaha Srotas).
Sarpagandha Ghan Vati is classically prepared by reducing a decoction of Sarpagandha root to a concentrated Ghan (extract), which is combined with fine Pippali Moola powder and formed into tablets, following traditional Siddha Yoga methods.
The alkaloid-rich Sarpagandha extract is traditionally believed to exert a Shamaka (sedative) and Vata-Pitta pacifying action on the nervous system, helping calm hyperexcitability, support restful sleep, and maintain healthy blood pressure with regular, supervised use.
The classical base of many Rasa Shastra formulations, traditionally described as Krimighna and Rasayana when properly processed and purified.
A traditional Rasashastra ingredient classically used for its Kapha-Ama clearing and lymphatic-supportive properties.
Classically included in formulations for glandular and metabolic disorders for its traditional Kapha-pacifying action.
Used in classical preparation as a Tridosha-balancing decoction base, traditionally regarded as Rasayana and digestive-supportive.
